Nationals Trying To Break Losing Streak

While losing to the reigning AL strikeout king shouldn’t be a big deal, it certainly does not help matters when your own staff can’t get a decent start out of anyone but your pitch-limited rookie.  The Nationals are just 3-9 this month in games not started by Stephen Strasburg, a fact that is really more an indictment of the rest of the staff that anything. Today Luis Atilano starts vs Detroit righty Jeremy Bonderman. Atilano has not yet had one start where he’s been anything better than average, yet he continues to hang on thanks to the injuries to Wang, Detwiler, Olson, and Zimmermann. The fact of the matter is until the Nationals get some real pitching, not guys who throw 84mph, they will continue this type of mediocrity.
