The Weekend In Review

I’ve been busy checking out the Baltimore Ravens at training camp all weekend so I haven’t gotten a chance to weigh-in on a few of the happenings and non- happenings, so I’ll just do it here.

Friday- Nats beat Roy Oswalt

This was fantastic. The Nats got 5 runs off of Phillys new star, and Craig Stammen of all people, shut the Phillie offense down.

Saturday- Rizzo keeps Dunn

There has been overwhelmingly negative feelings toward this non-move online. My feeling? Good job by Mike Rizzo, I trust that a good enough deal wasn’t out there to justify the move. This way, Washington can negotiate with Dunn throughout the rest of this season. Worst case scenario- Dunn signs somewhere else and we get 2 picks in a loaded 2011 draft.

Zim does it again

Is there a more shaky closer out there than Brad Lidge? Oh wait Hanrahans getting the ball in the 9th for Pittsburgh now.

- Nats sign the new Livan

Saturday saw the signing of 28 year old Cuban pitcher Yunesky Maya. Maya isn’t just any projectable defector, it’s become clear that both Maya and the Nats braintrust think he’s ready right now. Last year in Cuba’s best league, Maya was 13-4 with a 2.22ERA and won their equivalent of the Cy Young. By all accounts he could be up when rosters expand in September.

Sunday- The re-build continues

Meh, with the series already locked up the Nats drop the finale in extras. Lannan did pitch fairly well and Storen looked dominate.
