First the good. As we reported a few days ago, the Nationals have officially signed Sammy Solis, A.J. Cole, and Robbie Ray. Solis is a polished college lefty who could move fast through the system while Cole and Ray- both precocious high school arms, may be take a while longer.
Now the bad. As of 11pm Eastern time, Bryce Harpers still unsigned. Scott Boras has been embedded in negotiations with the Nationals all day. The reports have Harper and his team wanting around a 10 million dollar package from GM Mike Rizzo. While the figure seems ridiculous, Tampa Bay has shown that if you put money into the draft good things happen. The Nats have locked up 3 big money arms already after getting Strasburg last year, but if those guys are want they seem to be, it’ll be a pittance compared to what they would make on the open market.
