Nationals Extend Livan Through 2011

The Nationals announced Sunday that they have extended the contract of Livan Hernandez through 2011. Hernandez, who will be 36 on opening day next season, has gone 9-9 with 3.49ERA after being given just a 900,000 minor league contract at the beginning of 2010. The deal locks down one of the 5 rotation spots, gives Washington an innings eater, and keeps Livan around to aid in the development of Cuban defector Yunesky Maya.
