2010 Overview: Rodriguez was signed prior to the 2010 season to stabilize a young rotation and provide guidance to the Nats group of young catchers. For the most part, he did the job. Contributing to the offense with a better than awful .266 average, Pudge came through often with runners on base and in the late innings. But Pudges greatest value came as the calming influence to the cavalcade of young, inexperienced, and just plain crappy pitchers Washington threw on the mound.
2011 Preview: Rodriguez, scheduled to make 3million, enters 2011 in a competition for the catchers spot with Wilson Ramos, Jesus Flores, Wil Nieves, and (possibly) Derek Norris. Unless one of those guys learns another position I can’t really see the Nationals justification for keeping more than 2 catchers on the 25 man roster. Although its possible he would be beat out, Pudge most likely will grab one of the 2 spots on defense alone.
