It was announced that as of mid day today the current leader for the final NL roster spot is Shane Victorino of the Philadelphia Phillies. Which is not surprising in the least bit considering the Phillies currently have the most in all of baseball and Victorino is on pace to have the best season of his career.

For Morse well he got off to an abysmal start in the months of March and April batting a combined .211 with just 1 home run and 9 rbis in 79 plate appearances.  His start was definitely not what people were expecting from him after having had a read hot spring but he has been more than making up for from the month of May on.

From May 1st on Morse has made 196 plate appearances with 31 runs, 14 doubles, 14 home runs, 37 rbis with a .333 batting average and an on base percentage of .387

So overall do to the slow start Morse overall .349 on base percentage does not match up to Victorino’s .376 but from May 1st on it is slightly higher than Victorino’s .385 on base percentage during that same span.

Really I guess it all comes down to what do you want power numbers or speed numbers? Victorino has a significant edge on Morse in categories like triples and steals but Morse will get you more doubles, homers and rbis.

Me personally I’m voting for Morse he has been red hot since the start of May helping to carry the Nats to a record many people did not imagine was possible for them. Plus Clippard the lone Nats all star (compared to the Phillies four) could use some company while out there in Arizona.
