Harper goes yard in Senators win

It took him 19 games to do it but Washington Nationals prospect Bryce Harper finally hit his first home run as a Senator and he did so in game changing fashion. With the game tied 1 a piece at the top of the 7th, no men on and one away Harper crushed an 0-2 fastball sending it over the right field wall giving the Senators the lead and jump starting a 2 run 7th inning. The Senators extended the lead on the very next at bat on a Tim Pahuta home run.

The Senators would go on to add another 3 runs in the top of 9th on a rally that was kicked off by a Bryce Harper single, followed by a Tim Pahuta single and a Devin Ivany base clearing 3 run homer to left field. The Bay Sox tried to fight back in the bottom of the 9th putting 2 runs on the board on a 2 run home run by Ronnie Welty. But it was too little too late for the Bay Sox as they fell to the Senators by a score of 6 to 3.

For Harper it was his best game hitting wise as a Senator yet having went 3 for 4 with an rbi and 2 runs on a home run and 2 singles. Harper entered the game hitting just .217 for the Senators but left the game with a .250 batting average since joining the team.

Of Harper’s game today Senators general manager Tony Beasley said “It was probably a boost of confidence to get three hits today. He did some good things. It was really good to see.”

Harper has been hitting the ball fairly well since joining the Senators but the balls just not have been dropping for him so hopefully this is a good sign for him.
