If all things go right this Thursday will be Strasburg’s sixth and final minor league rehab start before coming up to pitch vs the Dodgers on the 6th at Nationals Park.
Strasburg who will be pitching for the Harrisburg Senators is expected to throw 75 to 80 pitches or 6 innings depending on which comes first.
In his last rehab outing Strasburg turned in a dominant performance throwing 5 perfect innings before being pulled in the 6th after allowing 2 hits to start the inning. In total he threw 64 pitches with 47 of them going for strikes and was able to mix in and throw his curveball, fastball and changeup with success. So if everything goes well Thursday his next step will be to make his first major league start since August 21st of the 2010 season when he went 4.1 innings and allowed 1 run vs the Philadelphia Phillies.
Last season in 12 starts for the Nationals he posted a record of 5 and 3 with a 2.91 era while striking out 92 batters and walking 17 over 68 innings.
With Jordan Zimmermann being shut down for the season after having reached his inning limit this start could be coming at just the right time for the Washington Nationals.
