According to MLB.com’s Bill Ladson, GM Mike Rizzo has expressed some interest in talking to free agent starting pitcher Roy Oswalt. Oswalt would provide the team with a veteran starter who some believe could mentor the team’s younger starters. Ladson points out that Rizzo had also held some interest when the right-hander was originally on the trade block by the Astros in the Spring of 2010.
I made my thoughts on Oswalt fairly clear about a week ago. I was then, and still am now, fearful that the Nationals would overpay but fairly sure that there could be a potentially more attractive opportunity available for the 34 year-old. He’s supposedly seeking at least 2-3 years and I’m not quite convinced that he can hold up for that long considering his history of back trouble.
