The Nationals added some minor league depth to the organization last week, agreeing to sign Jarrett Hoffpauir to a minor league contract. Hoffpauir, who will be 29 in June, is primarily a second baseman but has spent a fair amount of time playing third base as well. He’ll likely be ticketed for Triple-A Syracuse.
Hoffpauir spent the 2011 season with San Diego’s Triple-A affiliate. He batted .281/.356/.428 on the season in 356 plate appearances with 5 HR and 34 RBI.
He does have 53 career MLB plate appearances under his belt, coming between 2009 and 2010 with the Cardinals and Blue Jays. He hit .217/.308/.283 with 6 walks and 7 strikeouts in that span.
