The first full week of Spring Training has officially come to a close which means we’re one week closer to Opening Day. There are approximately 52 healthy players in camp at the moment but over the coming weeks we’ll see that total dwindled down to the best 25-man roster come April. By many accounts pitchers will start throwing live batting practice this afternoon and the first Grapefruit League games are slated for this coming weekend.
Negotiations surrounding a possible contract extension for Ryan Zimmerman were the center of our attention for much of the week, particularly Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The two sides seemed to grow increasingly closer to a deal despite repeated rumblings among the media that there was still a major road block in the way. If language regarding a no-trade clause is all that stands in the way of a deal, I’d feel comfortable stating that an agreement can ultimately be reached in order to keep Zimmerman in Washington for years to come.
Once again, with a new week beginning let’s recap our posts from the week that was, and a busy one it was. 18 posts in total from your DoD staff with at least one from each of our writers.
