Washington collectively finished this past week with a 4-2-2 record in the first full week of Spring Training. The Nationals defeated the Astros, Braves, and Mets twice (one was a split-squad game). They tied the Cardinals and Tigers (split-squad), since extra innings is something that doesn’t exist in the Grapefruit or Cactus Leagues. They lost to the Astros and Marlins.
Generally speaking, Spring Training records (and statistics) don’t mean much. There’s some value in them certainly, but their importance needs to be kept in the proper context. St. Louis finished 15-15-1 last Spring and went on to win the World Series.
Despite the flurry of games taking place across Florida, things here were relatively quiet, with only six new posts on the week. As most of you know at this point, that’s more aberration than the norm around these parts.
