DoD Content Recap: March 11-17

This weekly recap is a few days late this week, for no particular reason to be honest. It’s possible I thought it had been written last Sunday but it must have been overlooked. You’ll have to forgive me. I’ve been a little distracted considering I’m getting married in just about three weeks. But more on that another time.

As for the week that was, the highlight of the news was the beginning of some roster moves as teams moved into their second full week of Spring Training. Without much surprise the Nationals opted to send Anthony Rendon and Matt Purke down in that first wave, as both have yet to make their professional debuts after signing so close to the deadline last summer. They were only in camp by virtue of their Major League contracts.

If you recall, the Nationals lost two players in the MLB phase of December’s Rule 5 Draft. To further update one of those situations, it’s starting to seem likely that Erik Komatsu makes the Cardinals roster out of Spring Training. He’s reportedly been impressing the team’s coaching staff this Spring and they like his versatility defensively. He’d be a nice depth option for Washington if he does find his way back to the Nationals.
