The Washington Nationals received more injury news on the heels of the shocking promotion of Bryce Harper for injured star Ryan Zimmerman. A few hours ago, the club announced that Brad Lidge has been placed on the disabled list with an abdominal wall strain. Ryan Perry was recalled from the AAA Syracuse Chiefs to replace the Nationals part-time closer.
It is not yet known how long Lidge will be sidelined. The move is retroactive to April 22, so he can return on May 7, just after the series in D.C. with his former team, the Philadelphia Phillies.
Perry was acquired in an offseason trade with the Detroit Tigers. The Nationals sent Colin Balester to Detroit in exchange for Perry. A right-hander with a 95-MPH fastball and tight slider, Perry had a 2.00 ERA in eight appearances with the Chiefs. He has seen extensive big league action with Detroit.
