Stephen Strasburg Named NL Pitcher Of The Month

Since arriving in Washington for the 2005 season, the Nationals have twice had a player win an NL monthly award. Outfielder Ryan Church was the NL Rookie of the Month for May 2005. Closer Chad Cordero was the NL Pitcher of the Month in June 2005. That’s it.

Until now that is.

According to Mark Zuckerman, it was announced Wednesday afternoon that Stephen Strasburg has been named the NL Pitcher of the Month for April. Decisions on all league monthly awards are done based on voting conducted by the beat writers who cover teams in each league.

In 5 starts in the month of April, Strasburg went 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA over 32.0 innings. He’s added 9.6 K/9, 1.6 BB/9, and has yet to allow a home run on the year. His ERA ranks second in the NL. His 34 strikeouts rank third.
