DoD Content Recap: May 13-19

The week began with a pair of losses, to the organization’s catching depth, and ended just the same, on the field against Baltimore. In between, the phenom named Harper went deep for the first (and second) time.

Washington’s going to have question marks facing their backstop situation for much of the rest of the season, by most accounts, though it wouldn’t be wise to expect a big move being made. The loss of Wilson Ramos may prove to be a big one, as he’s actually one of the more underrated receiving catchers in the Majors. The Nationals pitchers, for instance, were ranked in the top 5 in ERA with Ramos behind the plate, with a 3.16 ERA. His loss will be felt for the rest of the season, no matter how well Jesus Flores hits while filling Ramos’ at bats.

The latest rendition of the Battle of the Beltway capped off the week, with the 1st place Nationals facing the 1st place Orioles for the first time in the so-called rivalry’s existence. Baltimore won two of three games, dropping the Nationals out of the top spot in the division. To be fair, the first two games of the series were close. The first went into extra innings before Nick Markakis hit a solo home run in the 11th inning that eventually won it. The second featured a late-game rally and a comeback that just wasn’t quite enough in the end.
