@69Nats_Fan "Usually" might have been an inapt way to phrase it. Perhaps I should have said "should be" capable of bringing them home. But I still think that just because others are struggling, a player shouldn't try to make things happen when they're just not there. Harper being thrown out at third last night was another perfect example. It's great to apply pressure, but you have to do it in a smart way, not willy-nilly.

Bradley,

Love the article, but I disagree with a few things -- the notion that the current middle of the order hitters for the Nats can "usually" get a runner home from scoring position isn't true. Right now, with Zimmerman and LaRoche in slumps (or RZim just exposed as an average MLB hitter with lots of weaknesses) and Morse called up a week too early and struggling with his timing, the more likely outcome was two weak outs, one probably a K, with Harper left at second.

I do agree that the kid needs to be more aware of game situations and not go all-out all the time. With his raw speed, he is going to score from 2nd on 90% of singles to the OF. In time, he'll become a more intuitive base stealer as well.

I agree he does need to rein in his crazy throws from the OF. Missing cutoff men with 95 MPH missiles doesn't help the club. He doesn't have to be the star of stars right now.

However, I'd hate to see the Nats reign in his aggressiveness too much. I think it's part of who he is.
