RHP Chris Young has opted out of his minor league deal with the Nationals, as first reported by MASN’s Dan Kolko. The move was somewhat expected, and Young will seek a major-league deal with another team.
Young pitched well in Spring Training, with a 3.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 12 IP. He would have been important starting depth in the minors if he had stayed, but knew his major league opportunities with the Nationals would be very limited. The Nats’ starter depth will now fall to pitchers like Ross Ohlendorf, Yunesky Maya, and Ryan Perry.
