Zach Duke To Start Monday in San Francisco For Detwiler

Now that Ross Detwiler‘s back spasms have yet to heal, the team has officially acknowledged that Zach Duke, he of the 8.40 ERA, will be starting against the defending champion San Francisco Giants in the series opener on Monday. This could be an indication that Detwiler will not require a trip to the DL, because no replacement is being called up to start for him yet. A terrible start could bring about the end of Duke’s miserable tenure on the team, which many would consider a mercy.

Why is Duke getting the start instead of Stammen? Can the Nats REALLY afford to just give away a game like this?
