Harper To DL, Erik Davis Called Up

The Nationals officially announced today that Bryce Harper has been placed on the 15-day DL with knee bursitis and that right-handed reliever Erik Davis has been called up from AAA Syracuse as his roster replacement.

Harper injured his knee in his widely publicized collision with the wall in Dodger Stadium, and attempted to play through the pain but now cannot. The team likely called up a reliever to reinforce the bullpen, which may need it given that Craig Stammen pitched four innings last night and Nate Karns is starting on Sunday. Davis has a 3.00 ERA in 24 innings at AAA this year, but could go back down to Syracuse for an outfielder like Corey Brown or Eury Perez when the bullpen is back at full strength.
