Karns Makes Second Career Start As Nats Look To Win Series

Nathan Karns will make his second career start this afternoon against the Atlanta Braves as the Nationals try and win the series and gain a game on first place Atlanta in the NL East. Karns, who worked 4.2 innings in a mediocre first start versus the Baltimore Orioles, looks to go deeper into this game and showcase the fastball-curve combination that led to his being named as a consensus top 100 prospect. The hard throwing righty will be opposed by will be opposed by veteran lefty Paul Maholm. Maholm, who has had a rough stretch recently after a phenomenal start to the season, will attempt to pick up his seventh victory of 2013.
