Strasburg Will Not Pitch Thursday; Could Return Saturday

In an expected move, Stephen Strasburg will not be making his scheduled start on Thursday against the Mets, but his recovery from a lat strain is going well enough that the team has not ruled out his starting on Saturday against the Twins. The team’s recent off day will allow them to move up the starts of Gio Gonzalez and Nate Karns to Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Strasburg suffered the relatively minor lat strain in his May 31st start against the Braves. He recently said his plan is to “take it day by day and see how it feels,” which is another ominous parallel to Ross Detwiler‘s oblique injury that has cost him three weeks and counting. He will throw a bullpen session today and would be closer to starting Sunday if that goes well, but may end up following the same path as Detwiler and having a DL stint.
