Detwiler Placed On DL

After feeling discomfort during a bullpen session recently, Ross Detwiler was placed on the DL with what is officially being called a lower back strain. The move is retroactive to July 4th, meaning that Detwiler can return on the 19th at the earliest. He will be replaced in the rotation with Dan Haren, who can come off the DL on July 9th. Taylor Jordanwill retain what was Haren’s old spot.

Detwiler missed four weeks earlier this season with a right oblique strain, but this issue is on the left side so it appears to be a separate injury. He had a 2.76 ERA before going on the DL with his first injury, but that has jumped to 4.04 after he allowed 18 earned runs in 25.2 IP across five starts since returning. He had allowed just four earned runs in 11.0 IP in the past two starts, but also gave up three unearned runs.
