Davey Shuffles Lineup In Second Game

After the somewhat-conventional lineup, albeit with Denard Span and Jayson Werth sitting, produced just two runs last night, Davey Johnson is tinkering with tonight’s lineup. He did not seem to have much conviction in his new creation, however: “It’s just something. I don’t know,” he remarked when asked about it before the game. Regardless of Davey’s confidence, the Nats hope their lineup in indeed something, if only to save face against the Braves, who have an all-but-insurmountable 13.5 game lead in the division. To cut into that tonight, the Nats will have to contend with rookie Julio Teheran, who has settled down significantly since having a 4.57 ERA on May 14th. He is now 8-5 with a 3.02 ERA. The Nats will start Gio Gonzalez, who is coming off his worst start as a Nat: a ten-run disaster against the Tigers. Since he only pitched 3.1 innings, maybe he’ll be well-rested tonight.
