The General Manager/Owner meetings begin tomorrow and last through Wednesday in Orlando, Florida. This isn’t the same as the Winter Meetings that begin on December 9th. These meetings will begin the process of the big deals to come at or before the Winter Meetings.

The Washington Nationals have been in the news a lot lately in reference to big name players. Those big names include Max Scherzer and Jacoby Ellsbury.

If the Nationals are going to make a deal, it needs to bolster the bullpen or be a game changer in my opinion. General Manager Mike Rizzo, hasn’t said anything about the two guys listed above, but with Rizzo anything can happen. After all he did trade the number one pitching prospect, Alex Meyer, to the Minnesota Twins for Denard Span before last season. Well, now Span is being talked about again in terms of trades.

In these meetings Rizzo, is going to lay out what he expects and wants to happen this winter in accordance to the Nats. That can include putting players on the trading block or stating who he wants to pick up in terms of trades. None the less, don’t expect anything big to happen this week, as talks are just now getting started. These things take time and by the time the Winter Meetings hit things will be brewing and ready to go.

As Jeff Todd states on MLB Trade Rumors the Nats’ could potentially move Bryce Harper to center field and go after a corner outfielder in a deal for Span. That could work, as Harper has played in center before. He is athletic enough to make the move smoothly and not let it affect him.

It will be key to listen to reports and see what guys are saying about Span and his value on the market. We will bring you all the potential reports as they become available to us.
