In today’s Arizona Fall League season finale, it was win or go home for Mesa. If they win they go on to the AFL championship and if they lose they go home.

Well Mesa got the win rather easily with a score of 9-3. Scoring six runs in the middle innings, really gave them the push to win this game. They went out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth innings, while Glendale scored in the bottom half to cut the lead to two. The next half inning became huge for Glendale as they needed a shutdown inning. That didn’t happen as Mesa put four runs on the board to take a six run lead.

From there it was just about getting outs, without letting the other team score six times.

Nationals sixth best prospect Sammy Solis pitched five innings, one earned run and struck out four. His ERA went down to 2.17 which was fourth best among starters with at least six starts. He did a great job all fall long of getting outs, and not letting the emotions get to him.

Him pitching in this game, with the magnitude it held, could give him the confidence he needs to have a great 2014 season. The Nationals aren’t sure about their bullpen from the left side, and you never know he could be that guy the Nats’ look to late in the season for big outs.

Nationals third best prospect Brian Goodwin, was 1-4 with a double in the win. He finishes the regular season hitting .296 with seven extra base hits. He still has some work to do to become major league ready, but one more season could be all he needs to get ready.

What a great fall from Mesa and the Nats’ players apart of their squad. We will bring you a game preview and recap of the championship on Saturday from Arizona.
