Day two has come and gone of the Winter Meetings and things haven’t changed one bit for the Washington Nationals.
There were some rumors brewing that possibly Drew Storen or Tyler Clippard could be headed out of D.C. and into the Windy City, but that has calmed down. Rizzo said that those were “lobby talks”. That pretty much just means that GM’s were just sitting around at the hotel throwing out names that could possibly help their club.
Matt Thornton also made some news as he is being looked at by the Nationals. He could become the lefty out of the pen. Who knows, the Nats are going after about 10 guys right now to fill that role.
As for Espinosa, he has been rumored to possibly be in a deal to go to Oakland if a deal can be made for either Sean Doolittle or Jerry Blevins. I had a post on that last night that you can read. If a deal does end up getting made, I don’t see it happening at the Winter Meetings.
There is only one day left and not many deals all together have been made. The Atlanta Braves haven’t done one thing productive this entire offseason, so that’s a good sign. The Nationals just have a few set pieces left and their 25 man roster will be ready to go. Only 110 days left until Opening Day, we can make it!
