It is reported and confirmed that Jamey Carroll will sign with the Washington Nationals on a Minor League deal with an invite to Spring Training. There is a good chance that Carroll could make the Major League club out of Spring Training as the utility player. He will also give Danny Espinosa competition for that spot. It would be smart to think that he will be replacing Steve Lombardozzi who was sent to Detroit earlier in the winter for starting pitcher Doug Fister.
Here is the official tweet from Ken Rosenthal:

Rosenthal also noted that Carroll is a .339/.417/.397 in 146 plate appearances as a pinch hitter. He will be the right-handed option of the bench to compliment Nate McLouth who will be the pinch hitter, from the left side on most occasions.
Mike Rizzo with another smart move that came up quickly and was finished before it even started. Carroll will be a better option than a lot of players that have been coming off the bench for the Nationals in recent seasons.
