The Harrisburg Senators have been the Washington Nationals Double-A affiliate since they came to Washington in 2005. Before that they were the affiliate of the Montreal Expos dating back to 1991. Today they received an extension that will allow them to stay a part of the organization through the 2018 season. Harrisburg finished first in the Western division of the Eastern League last season.
“Our partnership with Harrisburg and the Senators dates back more than 20 years, and it is with that history in mind that we are excited to sign on with them for another four,” general manager Mike Rizzo said in a statement. “Harrisburg is an Eastern League gem, and we are proud to continue our association with a team, and a town, that have such rich baseball histories.
The Senators have gotten to have players like Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper here lately, which have gotten fans into the seats. The Senators have a good team and continue to win so they will continue to get extensions.
This extension matches the one that Triple-A Syracuse received earlier this offseason. Both Harrisburg and Syracuse will be a part of the Washington Nationals organization through 2018.
