Less than 24 hours after announcing the big trade that brought Jose Lobaton to the Nationals, the team added yet another piece to the 2014 Spring Training puzzle. The Nationals have signed right-handed pitcher Josh Roenicke to a minor league deal with an invitation to major league Spring Training, the team announced via Twitter.

Roenicke, 31, posted a 4.35 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 62 innings with the Minnesota Twins last season. The right-handed reliever has spent parts of six seasons with the Reds, Blue Jays, Rockies and Twins.
It’ll be a family reunion at Viera this year, as Roenicke is Ian Desmond‘s brother in law.

Roenicke will likely compete with a handfull of players for a spot in a Nationals’ bullpen that is already stacked with right-handed pitching talent. We should find out over the next six weeks if the Desmond- Roenicke family will be staying together for the regular season.
