After an offensive explosion gave the Nationals a convincing 8-3 victory over the Brewers Saturday night, the team hopes to get the series win in the rubber game Sunday afternoon.

Gio Gonzalez (6-5, 3.56 ERA) will make his second half debut after a flight cancellation and missed bullpen session forced him to miss Saturday’s start. Gonzalez was solid his last time out, against the Orioles, allowing three runs and striking out seven over six innings of work. Prior to his last start, Gonzalez was riding an impressive 22-inning scoreless streak.

In his career against the Brewers, Gonzalez is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA over 19 innings of work.

The Brewers will counter with right-hander Yovani Gallardo (5-5, 3.68 ERA), who gave up five runs in 5 2/3 innings in his last start against St. Louis. In his career against the Nationals, Gallardo is 3-3 with a 5.61 ERA in 51 1/3 innings.

Prior to Sunday afternoon’s game, the Nationals are tied with the Braves for first place in the NL East with a record of 52-43.
