Good morning DoD readers! Some of you may be waking up to find out about last night’s disastrous loss to the Phillies. It was a heartbreaker for the Nationals, to say the least. But over the course of a 162 game season, meltdowns like the one in last night’s game are bound to happen eventually. At least they got it out of their system, right?

Fortunately for the Nationals, they can forget all about last night as they’ll be back on the field this afternoon for Game 2 against Philadelphia. Check back here later for a preview of today’s game!

As you get ready for what will hopefully be a better game than last night’s, checkout some great Washington Nationals content from around the web in our District Daily!

Zimmerman not ready for baseball activities

WASHINGTON — Ryan Zimmerman is making progress in rehabbing from the Grade 3 right hamstring strain that’s kept him on the disabled list since July 23, but Nationals manager Matt Williams said Zimmerman’s not participating in baseball activities yet.

Williams said Friday that Zimmerman is running faster and harder, and the skipper likes to see that, but the team still doesn’t know when he could return to baseball work. Read full article here.

LaRoche improving after under-the-weather heroics

WASHINGTON — Besides dealing with lower-back tightness and a painful left elbow in the wacky 8-5 victory over the Dodgers on Wednesday, Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche had flu-like symptoms.

Asked how he was before Friday’s game against the Phillies, LaRoche said he was feeling like he was getting over an accident.

“With that said, it is slowly getting better,” LaRoche said. “The back feels a little better today, I’m kind of getting over the flu today and my elbow feels a little better today. We have three things we are treating and trying to get rid of.” Read full article here.

Potential Giancarlo Stanton trades: Washington Nationals

(Patrick Washington, Fish Stripes)

The Washington Nationals currently sit atop the National League at 79-59 and in all likelihood will win their second NL East crown and make their second playoff appearance in the last three seasons.

After finishing a Major League best 98-64 in 2012, the Nationals came up short in the Division Series in dramatic fashion, losing to the St. Louis Cardinals after giving up 4 runs in the 9th inning of the decisive Game 5.

In 2013, the Nationals entered the season as one of the favorites to wih the pennant, but missed the playoffs despite an 86-76 record after digging themselves a hole in the first half with poor hitting and bullpen production. Read full article here.

"Editor’s Note: Very interesting article about a hypothetical Nationals-Marlins mega-deal involving superstar outfielders Bryce Harper and Giancarlo stanton. While I doubt the Nationals would ever agree to the specific, lopsided deal proposed in the article, the idea of a trade involving both Harper and Stanton is intriguing, to say the least."
