The Nationals’ quest to clinch the best record in the National League hit a speed bump Wednesday night, as their game against the Mets was postponed due to inclement weather.

The game has been rescheduled for Thursday, when the division foes will wrap up the series with a split doubleheader at Nationals Park. Game 1 will start at 1:05 p.m., while Game 2 is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

"From Nationals.com: Fans with tickets to Wednesday’s postponed contest may use their original tickets for the 1:05 p.m. rescheduled game on Thursday. Those unable to attend the 1:05 game on Thursday can exchange their tickets for any game during the 2014 regular season or any regular or value games in April of the 2015 season. Exchanged tickets will be issued from available inventory in the closest pricing category of equal or lesser value to the original seats."

The Nationals will send right-hander Blake Treinen to the mound for Game 1. The young right-hander pitched well his last time out, holding the Braves to just three hits over five scoreless innings Sept. 17.

Left-hander Gio Gonzalez, who was originally scheduled to take the mound against Dillon Gee and the Mets Wednesday night, will start the night-cap.

Wednesday’s postponement creates an unusual situation for the Nationals. The team was already scheduled to play a split doubleheader on Friday against the Marlins, meaning that the Nationals will now play four games in two days. Right-handers Doug Fister and Taylor Hill will both start on Friday.

“It’s not ideal, but we can’t do much about the weather,” manager Matt Williams told MLB.com. “The weather is pretty bad tonight. It looks like it’s not getting out of here before tomorrow morning. Rather than wait around all night and get out of here late, we decided to play two tomorrow. We are not the only team that’s had to play a doubleheader this year.”
