The Washington Nationals fell to the Brewers Friday night as the team extended its losing streak to a season-high six games.

After being swept by the Dodgers this week, the Nationals started off their series against the Brewers on a low note, falling to Milwaukee, 5-3, and extending their losing streak to six games.

The Brewers got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run single by Aaron Hill off of Nationals starter Max Scherzer.

The Nationals tied the game an inning later on a two-run double by Daniel Murphy, and then took a 3-2 lead on an RBI single by Wilson Ramos. Unfortunately for the Nationals, the Brewers’ offense wasn’t finished.

Milwaukee tied the game on a solo homer by Keon Broxton in the bottom of the fifth. They took a 5-3 lead an inning later on a two-run homer off the bat of Kirk Nieuwenhuis. All five runs were charged to Scherzer, who earned his fifth loss of the season.

It was a rough night for Scherzer, who struck out 10 batters but allowed five runs on five hits while walking three batters over six innings.

After Scherzer left the game, Matt Belisle and Blake Treinen each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. But the damage was done, and the Nationals offense wasn’t able to do much of anything against the Milwaukee pitching staff.

With the loss, the Nationals are now 43-31 on the season and lead the Mets by 3 games in the NL East.

Next Up: The Nationals and Brewers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, as Gio Gonzalez and the Nationals hope to snap their losing streak against Matt Garza and the Brewers. First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. ET.
