Nats pitching struggles in loss to Cardinals

The Nationals losing streak  continues today as the St Louis Cardinals thrashed the Washington Nationals by a score o 10 to 4.

Nationals starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann entered the game Friday having pitched in 11 consecutive scoreless innings but today was the day that the streak would end. The Cardinals hit Zimmermann early scoring 2 runs in the first inning and a total of 6 before he was pulled after 4 innings.

In total Zimmermann gave up 8 hits, 2 walks and 6 earned runs in just 4 innings of work.

Jordan Zimmermann after the his outing had the following to say “I just fell behind in the counts,” he continued on by saying “When you fall behind, you are going to be in trouble. It just seemed the leadoff hitter pretty much every inning got on base. I was pitching in trouble all day long.”

It was definitely Zimmermann’s worst outing this spring but otherwise he has looked impressive this spring and has looked like the top of the rotation talent the Nats were hoping for from him.

So at this point I wouldn’t worry too much about his performance today because bad days happen especially with it being as early in the season as it is.

Also for the Nationals relief pitcher Drew Storen had a pretty rocky outing giving up 3 earned runs on 4 hits and 1 walk in just 1 inning of ball. Storen got rocked for a triple and back to back home runs (Descalso, Hamilton).

Storen has had a rough spring altogether having entered today’s game with an era 10.13 and left with an era of 12.79.

Drew Storen who is entering his second season with the Nationals had the following to say of his rough spring to this point “It’s a tough learning experience, but it’s going to make me better at the end,”

I hope Storen is right and I have a feeling he will be…..
