Kimball Re-Claimed by Washington

Well, that was short lived. Just yesterday I reported here that Nationals reliever Cole Kimball was claimed off of waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays. Kimball, a hard thrower who could ultimately find himself working towards the back of the bullpen in a setup role, will likely be out of action until sometime mid-2012 due to his recovery from rotator cuff surgery. He was originally lost because the Nationals were trying to sneak him through waivers in an effort to open an additional spot on the 40-man roster. It would seem as though Toronto was trying to do the same. While I haven’t seen confirmation elsewhere, MLBTR is reporting that according to the Blue Jays organization, Kimball has been re-claimed by Washington today.

Kimball’s re-acquisition puts the Nationals’ 40-man roster at 33 players, by my unofficial count. The team has until later today to add additional players to the 40-man roster in order to prevent them from being eligible for December’s Rule 5 Draft so it’s possible additional moves may be made this afternoon.
