Brian Goodwin Named FanSided’s #40 Prospect

Aaron Somers and the gang at Seedlings to Stars announced their 40-31 rankings this morning, and Washington Nationals prospect Brian Goodwin was at the top of that list. That makes him the fourth Nationals member in the top 115 with presumably Anthony Rendon still to come in the top 30 which will begin to be revealed on Monday.

Aaron, who knows the Washington organization pretty well holding down my job over the last few seasons, says that Goodwin is the center fielder of the future for the Nationals and that he could be seen in Washington as soon as the end of this season if some of their current depth outfielders don’t work out as expected.

Goodwin was one of the major reasons that Denard Span was the choice of General Manager Mike Rizzo. Span is under team control for the time frame it is expected to take Goodwin to get to the Major Leagues and will still be a valuable asset once that happens as opposed to a B.J. Upton or Michael Bourn* who will still have several years and high dollars attached to their long-term deals.

*Assuming that Bourn doesn’t opt for a short-term deal as the market for him dwindles
