The Nationals feasted early and often on the Miami Marlins to cruise to their eight victory of the season. Zimmerman and Zimmermann led the Nationals to victory at bat, on the field, and on the mound.

The Nationals bats seemed to be making up for lost time after being swept and silenced by the Braves. Ryan Zimmerman and Tyler Moore each drove in two runs in the top of the first.

Tyler Moore capitalized on his start at first base again in the third inning by driving in Ian Desmond on a double. Moore scored on Stephen Lombardozzi’s double to extend the Nationals lead to six.

Ryan Zimmerman hit his first home run of the year in the fourth with Jayson Werth on base.  Denard Span‘s single in the fifth scored Lombardozzi and Kurt Suzuki to increase the Nationals lead to ten.

That was more than enough for Jordan Zimmermann who pitched a complete game. Zimmermann gave up three runs and struck out six. After giving up two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh, Zimmermann slammed the door shut on the Marlins by pitching scoreless eighth and ninth innings. After a rough series against the Braves, the Nats bullpen got a day off.

The Nationals will look to continue their dominance over the Marlins tomorrow. Dan Haren will try to get back on track after a couple of shaky outings. The Marlins will counter with Alex Sanabia in search of their third win of the season.
