The team has officially announced today that Dan Haren has been placed on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, and that 1B/LF Tyler Moore will return to the Nats from Syracuse.

The placement of Haren on the DL was not a surprise, as the news came out yesterday, but the story here is the return of Moore to the majors. He struggled heavily as a semi-regular earlier this season, hitting .158 with just two home runs, and was replaced recently by Chris Marrero. However, Marrero has managed just one hit in 15 at-bats while Moore hit .175 in 42 at-bats in Syracuse.
Moore is likely being called up due to Jayson Werth‘s injury, because he is a righty bat that can play in the outfield unlike Marrero. The Nationals don’t need to call up a starter for Haren until June 30th, so Moore should stay around until then. If Werth is still out or the team has more faith in Moore than in the als0-struggling Marrero, then he will stay past the 30th, but don’t be surprised to see Werth return and the team support Marrero by sending Moore back down on the 30th.
