Washington Nationals Announce 2014 Regular Season Schedule

The Washington Nationals today released their 2014 regular season schedule, which includes 81 home dates, beginning with Washington’s 81st home opener since 1901 on Friday, April 4 vs. Atlanta and is highlighted by an attractive slate of weekend visits from the Braves (twice), Phillies (twice), Cardinals, Cubs and Pirates. The Nationals start the 2014 season on the road on Monday, March 31 at Citi Field against the Mets.

Washington’s 2014 slate both begins and concludes with a significant stretch of games against NL East rivals. Washington opens the season with 15 consecutive intradivison contests, March 31-April 16, before capping the campaign with 23 straight games against NL East rivals from September 5-28.

Seventeen of the Nationals’ initial 26 contests next season will be contested within the comfy confines of Nationals Park. As the calendar flips to September, the Nationals wrap up the ’14 slate with a six-game homestand against the Mets and Marlins. Washington’s 2014 regular season concludes at home on Sunday, September 28 against Miami.

The annual Battle of the Beltways Series between the Nationals and Orioles continues for a ninth consecutive season with each club hosting a pair of contests over a four-game span, July 7-10. The two clubs have traditionally met for the first time in the month of May, but the ’14 series begins in The District, July 7-8, before migrating north to Oriole Park for the final two matchups, July 9-10.

The Nationals will square off with clubs from the American League West in 16 of 20 interleague contests. Washington’s home interleague slate includes visits from the Angels (three games, April 21-23), Rangers (three, May 30-June 1) and Astros (two, June 17-18) in 2014.Washington, along with the two games in Baltimore, will make additional interleague stops in Houston, Oakland and Seattle. With their initial trek to Oakland’s O.co Coliseum, May 9-11, the Nationals complete the big league circuit having played on the road against each of MLB’s other 29 franchises.

The ’14 home schedule features the following holiday home games: Memorial Day (Monday, May 26 vs. Marlins) and Independence Day (Friday, July 4 vs. Cubs).

Of the Nationals’ 12 homestands, two last 10 or more games. Nationals Park will host 11 contests in as many days from April 17-27 (Cardinals, Dodgers, Padres) and from May 26-June 5, the Nationals will play 10 home games during a 12-day stay in Washington (Marlins, Rangers, Phillies).

April (17 games), August (16) and May (14) contain the most home games in a calendar month, while June and July share the fewest (11 each).
