Nats’ Sammy Solis, Brian Goodwin Starting For Mesa In Arizona Fall League Season Finale
The Arizona Fall League is coming to an end and the Washington Nationals have their number six prospect Sammy Solis on the bump for the season finale. This isn’t just any season finale, the Nationals play for the Mesa Solar Sox, who with a win, wrap up the East division. Winning the division puts them into the Championship Game against the Surprise Saguaros.
Solis has been solid throughout the entire season, making six starts, only giving up six earned runs. He has pitched 24 innings so far and has given up 26 hits. His 25 strikeouts are the second most in the league, and opponents are hitting .271 off of him. His 2.25 ERA is third best among pitchers with at least five starts. He also holds down a 1.38 WHIP.
To go along with Solis, Nats’ third best prospect Brian Goodwin will be getting the start as the Designated Hitter, in the two hole. Goodwin this fall is hitting .299, .329 OBP. His major issue has been his strikeout to walk ratio. He has struck out a whopping 20 times, to only three walks. Rumors have him being the long term guy in center field for the Nats’ but he is nowhere near major league ready.
Both of these guys are high on the Nats’ radar, we will be bringing you weekly updates of all Nats’ farm teams as the season gets going. As for now, be sure to keep up with tonights game and see if Mesa can pull out the win and capture the East division. The game is scheduled for a 12:35 Mountain Time start.
