According to William Ladson on Twitter the Nationals have re-signed right-handed pitcher Chris Young to a minor league deal. The numbers on the deal have not been passed on as of yet.

Young last pitched in the major leagues back in 2012 with the New York Mets and had an ERA over four. He spent all of 2013 in the Nationals minor league system, bugged by an injury for most of the year.

He doesn’t give up too many hits per nine, but when he does, they go over the wall. He averages over one homer a game per nine innings in his career. That has been his major problem. His 6’10” frame had so much potential, but he never really panned out with his stuff. He didn’t throw hard enough, and couldn’t locate or move the ball to keep the hitter off balance.

He will be 34 on Opening Day 2014, with not much left in the tank. This will end up being his final go at it most likely and at best he will end up in the bullpen. I don’t see him making the back end of the rotation with all of the young arms that the Nats’ have in the farm system on their way to the big leagues.
