In a rotation as deep and as talented as the one the Nationals will have in 2014, there is no clear-cut favorite for the number one spot. In my opinion, Jordan Zimmermann will get the ball on Opening Day for the Nationals. Zimmermann had an incredible season last year and I honestly believe he will be even better in 2014.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter who pitches the first game of the season. The rotation will eventually get messed up by rain delays and off-days anyways. The Washington Nationals have one of the best rotations in baseball. That’s all that matters. The very fact that this is even a debate just goes to show how talented the Nationals’ pitching staff is and what they are capable of accomplishing in 2014.

Regardless of who pitches where in the rotation, the Nationals will need all of these guys to stay healthy and play at the level they are capable of playing. The Nationals have big goals for 2014. And with Strasburg, Gonzalez, Zimmermann and Fister throwing every fifth day, there is no reason to believe they won’t be able to achieve those goals.
