Jose Lobaton has been very good off the bench this season for the Washington Nationals. When Wilson Ramos was out, Lobaton held his own at the plate in semi-regular duty.
Now, he’s back in his usual reserve role. Lobaton is a quality reserve, however—mostly because he can do this from time to time:
On a 3-2 count with one out in the bottom of the second, Lobaton took Texas Rangers starter Nick Tepesch deep into right field. The ball cleared the scoreboard in right for a two-run shot, extending his team’s lead to 3-0.
On the year, Lobaton now has two homers.
When everyone on the depth chart is contributing, you know a team is going well. The Nats appear to be on the right track following a disappointing start to the season.
