Nationals add to baseball operations department
WASHINGTON — The Nationals continue to add to their baseball operations department, hiring Mike Cubbage and Terry Wetzel on Wednesday as special assistants to general manager Mike Rizzo.
The Nats also added Brandon Larson and Scott Ramsay, who take over newly created scouting territories within the United States. Justin Bloxom, Buddy Hernandez and Steve Leavitt were hired to scout existing territories.
Best known for his playing career with the Twins, Cubbage was a special assistant to the Rays’ general manager and a Major League scout for the previous nine seasons. Read full article here.
Catch nets Souza gift certificate from Zimmermann
WASHINGTON — After pitching a no-hitter on the last day of the 2014 regular season, Nationals right-hander Jordan Zimmermann said he would give outfielder Steven Souza Jr. anything he wanted. Souza made a spectacular diving catch to end the game against the Marlins and preserve the no-no.
On Wednesday, Souza revealed to MLB.com that Zimmermann gave him a Best Buy gift certificate. Souza declined to say how much the gift certificate was worth, but the present from Zimmermann helped Souza out big time. Read full article here.
