2. Get a deal done for Zimmermann: There have already been plenty of rumors flying around during the offseason that involve Jordan Zimmermann’s name, including several trade talks. It appears, though, that Mike Rizzo is holding out on trading the pitcher unless he receives a great haul in return. That’s all well and good, but, truth be told, I want Rizzo to get a deal done with Zimmermann in 2015.

While that doesn’t necessarily mean I want Zimmermann traded, I’m certainly not opposed to it. Zimmermann only has one left on his deal and, given his performance late in the season, which included a no hitter on the last day of the year and a gem of a game in October, it’s likely he’ll be handsomely rewarded by some team once he gets to free agency. If the Nationals can get key pieces from a trade, they should.

If they can’t make a swap, though, I’d like to see Rizzo try and get a contract extension done. Even if it’s only a couple of years, Rizzo should keep Zimmermann around as long as he can. I realize this option is highly unlikely and the trade is more plausible. Either way, I’d like to see something happen on this front as long so the Nationals don’t go into the start of the season with Zimmermann playing out his contract.
