OF Brandon Nimmo

When the Mets took Brandon Nimmo with the 13th pick in the 2011 draft, the talk was more around the player that the Marlins took with the next pick, Jose Fernandez. Three years later, Nimmo is now the number three player in the Mets’ system behind Syndergaard and Kevin Plawecki.

While the Nationals have a very talented outfield with Jayson Werth, Bryce Harper, and Denard Span, Nimmo is still a couple years away from the Major Leagues.

At 21 years old, Nimmo finished the season in AA Binghamton last season, hitting .238 with six home runs and 26 RBI’s. He was promoted from St. Lucie in the Florida State League, where he hit .322 in 62 games with a .448 on-base percentage.

As far as defense goes, Nimmo has the tools to be successful. Down in Binghamton, he made one error in those 62 games playing left and center field. Now, the Nationals do have a player in Michael Taylor that could take Span’s spot if he leaves, but Nimmo could be a player that comes in 2-3 years down the road.

This Fall, Nimmo got a chance to play in the Arizona Fall League. He did hit only .202, but drove in eight RBI’s. Again, this would be a piece that could contribute down the road, which is why I don’t think the Nationals would look to center a deal around Nimmo.
