Yesterday, Washington Nationals fans got an early preview of what Game 1 could be like in a postseason. The trio of Max Scherzer, Drew Storen, and new closer, Jonathan Papelbon, kept the Marlins off the board as the Nats defeated the Miami Marlins, 1-0.
The lone run of the game came in the top of the second inning when Ryan Zimmerman hit a solo shot to left field against Dan Haren. Even though the Nats could not generate much offense in this game, they have been able to unleash the long ball. The Nats’ offense has hit four home runs in the last two games, including two long balls from Bryce Harper on Wednesday night.

The Nats were finally able to win their first two games of the season at Marlins Park and they are now on good momentum as they head to New York to finish off their ten game road trip against the New York Mets. Matt Williams’ squad will head into tonight’s game with a three game lead in the NL East.
While the offense scored one run in two of the three games this series, there have been signs that having Anthony Rendon, Jayson Werth, and Zimmerman back in this lineup is going to eventually lead to an offensive resurgence, similar to when the team was on fire in the month of May.
Before Gio Gonzalez takes on Matt Harvey in tonight’s game at Citi Field (7:10 PM ET, MASN and MLB Network), here are my takeaways from yesterday’s 1-0 win:
