Heading into the 2016 season, expectations are not as high for the Nats as they were a year ago. Jordan Zimmerman and Ian Desmond have brought their talents to the American League, while two former division rivals, Ben Revere and Daniel Murphy, will be looking to help anchor an offense that ranked third in the NL in runs scored.

While the NL East is likely to be a two-man race, the Mets are as formidable an opponent as anyone and, lest we forget, won the National League Pennant last season. Their star-studded rotation and surprisingly sound lineup will give the Nats more than a run for their money this season.

If the players stay on the field, the Nats could be one of the most dangerous teams in the National League. Ryan Zimmerman and Anthony Rendon are extremely effective hitters when healthy, and their everyday presence in the lineup can allow reigning MVP Bryce Harper to propel this offense to the top of the league rankings.

Their pitching staff is still well stocked despite losing Zimmermann and Doug Fister. Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, and Gio Gonzalez form a formidable trio at the top of the rotation, while Joe Ross and Tanner Roark sport tremendous upside.

Prediction: Nats finish 88-74, and earn home field advantage in the Wild Card game. They lose in the NLCS to the San Francisco Giants. Dusty Baker wins Manager of the Year and Bryce Harper adds his second straight MVP title to the trophy shelf.

Finally, we have Grant Thomas’ predictions, as he mentions pitching coach Mike Maddux as being a huge addition to the organization:
