2016 – 8-Run 4th Inning

On August 20 of this season, the Washington Nationals had one of their best single innings in franchise history. During that inning, they had nine hits, which was the most in any inning since the team moved from Montreal to Washington D.C.

Trailing 3-1 in the top of the fourth, Daniel Murphy led off the inning with a solo home run to right field, his 23rd of the season, against Tyrell Jenkins. Later in the inning, with one out, the Nats hit four straight singles (RBI singles from Anthony Rendon, Wilmer Difo, and Max Scherzer).

After all of those singles, Trea Turner hit a three-run home run to right field to give the Nats a 8-3 lead. The final run of the inning came on a sacrifice fly from Bryce Harper. As for Turner, the 23-year-old has hit two of his nine career home runs at Turner Field, including his first back on September 29, 2015.

Despite getting the big lead, this game got interesting late. Down 10-3 after the top of the seventh, the Braves would get the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth down 11-9. But, Mark Melancon got Anthony Recker to pop out for the final night of the game.
